Lauren Y. WalkerAs a child running the streets of the gritty steel mill town of Gary, IN, Lauren dreamed of little else than becoming a novelist. Heart and soul packed with confidence and support from the town she would always come to view as "fam," her career as a communications professional took a different path than what was mapped in her mind. GPS set due west on Route 66, she made L.A. her home and for nearly 18 years, produced syndicated television programming targeting African Americans and those interested in African American culture.
The creative being that she is, Lauren sought other professional challenges and utilized her writing and production expertise to develop fundraising communications at her alma mater, the University of Southern California. Her work again, positively influencing perceptions of a People – paving the way for future generations to learn from history so that in their lifetime, society as a whole will be made better for it. During that time, she also decided to pursue obtaining a Masters’ degree in Communication Management. Life was good...until it wasn't. At a crossroads in her life, professionally and personally, with a milestone birthday looming, Lauren knew it was time to pursue her childhood dream. She quickly realized responsibility would make it a dream deferred – again. A very brief detour in the transportation industry soon led her back to the familiar road of communications. This time in corporate internal communications – her third career. She knows corporate comms won’t be her sunset career – that one is the road less traveled in life – the dream career. Heart packed again with support from loved ones; now, mind equipped with the tools to excel; and soul teeming with life experiences, Lauren looks forward to completing an outline two years in the making – GPS to her debut novel, Diesel Detective. It’s the story of a woefully bad, downtrodden trucker who finds herself having to use journalism skills she no longer trusts, to clear her name as a possible suspect in the murder of her ex, before it is revealed that an issue in her past, could jeopardize her livelihood. What she learns in the process, is that another part of her past, is in fact, tied to three murders. Fueled by the insatiable desire for her legacy to be that she “left the place better than she found it,” Lauren uses this first of seven in the murder mystery series to spotlight the age old mystery…why do we behave as a society as we do, expecting better? |
